The Bride and Groom
Emily grew up in Manchester, CT and pursued a college degree from Quinnipiac University. She wasn't really satisfied with her major, so she obtained another bachelor's degree somehow without March Madness distraction, from the University of Connecticut in Nursing. She worked as a dialysis nurse for a time, and then decided she wanted to torture herself with more school, this time obtaining a Masters in Nursing from the University of Connecticut. She now works as an APRN in a Level 1 Trauma Center in Hartford. She vows that she will continue to assess Jim's softball injuries and cajole him into seeing a doctor.
From an early age James liked to understand how things work, so his career as a Network Engineer is no surprise. He graduated from Bryant University with a Bachelor's in Information Technology, putting it to use at various large insurance companies in the insurance capital of the world, and various healthcare facilities. He currently makes sure that Emily's orders for chest xrays get through to the radiologists. James vows to continue expanding his server and home network, while troubleshooting Emily's computer problems.
HOW WE MET
Emily and Jim both put their search for love into the most trusted hands...the internet!!! That gamble paid off, however, when these two met at Sliders in West Hartford for trivia game night on March 5th, 2014. They may not have won at trivia but instead won each other's hearts. They plan to wed on October 20th, 2018.
Jim booked our favorite bed & breakfast, The Cliffside Inn, as a Christmas present for Emily for the weekend of May 19th. Unbeknownst to her, he emailed his family & hers, and asked them to reserve May 20th in their calendars for a special surprise. That Friday, Jim was fairly insistent they go for a walk on the Cliff Walk on Saturday afternoon. Emily's only stipulation was that it not be 3+ miles like the last time they went 2 years ago. The morning of May 20th, 2017, the couple enjoyed their breakfast in the main dining room of the Cliffside Inn and met some other couples from around the country. All went off on their won adventures for the day. Jim & Emily started with some early morning shopping to find Jim a sweatshirt as it was chilly and he had forgotten his, then they toured two mansions. After lunch the pair went shopping on Thames Street, and stopped at The Pink Pineapple Boutique. Emily saw a pretty wine tumbler that said "Soon to be Mrs." on it, and showed Jim, saying, "is it EVER going to happen?" Jim gave his standard reply of "soon." They briefly stopped at the Inn, then were on their way to the Cliff Walk. They went down an embankment onto some rocks, and as Emily was taking pictures Jim got down on one knee, asked Emily turn around, and asked her to marry him right there on the Cliff Walk by the ocean. She was speechless for a minute and then said yes. They went back to the Inn to celebrate with Prosecco during the Inn's scheduled wine & cheese hour with the other guests they had met that morning. Jim had told Emily they had a special dinner planned before they left for their mini vacation, and Emily now figured out it was to celebrate their engagement. Jim told her the reservation was for 8pm however he was starting to get antsy and make her hurry getting ready at 7:15. When they arrived to the restaurant where they had a date two years prior, the hostess gave Emily a funny look and led the pair upstairs to the enclosed patio. Emily got the second shock of her life when she walked into the room to see her parents, Jim's parents and siblings for a wonderful engagement dinner.
